The Fantasia circus is coming to Harrow but not everyone is excited by the news.

Alexandra Park in South Harrow will host the performers from Tuesday October 25 – Sunday October 30.

People living near the park were shocked to see the event was advertised at short notice and are worried it could damage the community park.

Jon Humphries, 70, lives opposite the park in Alexandra Avenue.

Mr Humphries said: “I live just opposite the park and I often walk there and always see families and children playing.

“The council say the circus was organised on short notice, but they did not communicate with the public in advance and I think they have an obligation to the people to tell us.

“Posters have been put up on the park gates and a friend of mine said he spotted 100 along Northolt Road. It is the wrong park for a circus, there are other parks in the area that are better suited.

“I have known and used the park for almost 60 years and apart from one previous beach party I recall, nothing like this has been held here before and I sincerely hope, never will again.”

Harrow Council reported that a PA system will be used within the circus and music and announcements will be maintained at reasonable levels during event times only 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm.

They added that they do not expect any damage to trees and any major damage caused to the park will be restored by the circus. There may be minor damage to grass which our maintenance team will address.

Cllr Graham Henson, portfolio holder for environment, crime and community safety said: "Our parks belong to everyone and we want our residents to enjoy all the exciting events and activities which take place.

"This half term, we’ve agreed to host a circus at Alexandra Park where there will be lots of fun and entertainment for families and the local community. We always aim to keep residents informed about what’s going on.”
