The North London Military Wives Choir is joining forces with local Cancer Research UK volunteers for the annual Candles of Hope ceremony, in honour of people touched by cancer.
The ceremony, which takes place at the Bannister Stadium on Uxbridge Road, will contain music from the North London Military Wives Choir, as well as poem readings and personal testimony from cancer survivors.
Event organiser Mark Clements said: "The Candles of Hope ceremony is a really beautiful time. We come together as a community to celebrate all those lives saved by research into cancer, to remember and mourn those whom we have lost too soon because of this terrible disease, and to hope that the day when cancer is beaten comes sooner.
"The track at the Bannister Stadium is lit with over 600 candles, each one dedicated to someone with cancer. Each flame represents a person who has had a diagnosis and treatment.
“Some are still with us, others are not. They burn throughout the night as a sign that regardless of how dark the night seems, there is always hope."
Candles of Hope is part of the Cancer Research UK Relay For Life Harrow weekend, which is aiming to raise £50,000 this year towards beating cancer.
Candles of Hope takes place at the Bannister Stadium at 8.30pm. Candles can be dedicated up to 8pm on the day, and at the family fun day at the same venue immediately beforehand.
