WOMEN who walked nine miles during the night to raise money for a hospice say the experience was “humbling”.

More than 1,200 ladies took part in the Midnight Walk to support St Luke’s Hospice, in Kenton on Friday.

Bala Vekaria, from Harrow, walked in memory of her mother, who died in 2010, and her father and grandmother, who died last year.

She said: “It was an amazing night as usual, it's very humbling being amongst so many people all with one selfless aim. Thanks to all the volunteers and marshals who do a grand job on guiding us and keeping us safe on the night.

“A huge thank you to all of you who donated, a heartfelt thanks to our guardian angels who stopped the rain just before we started and kept it a dry night for us.”

“For mum, St Luke's Hospice at Home supported us in taking care of her during the last few weeks of her life and we will always be grateful for the support and advice they gave us.

“For dad, St Luke's helped him with alternative therapies to help manage his pain. Although at first he was a bit apprehensive about going there, after having his first session and seeing how friendly and supportive they were, he went without needing any nudging.”
