ALMOST 500 former students of a secondary school are inspiring current pupils to achieve career success.

Alumni of Kingsbury High School, in Princes Avenue, are working with national education charity, Future First, in their Old School Tie networks project.

They will be able to offer support and share stories about the jobs they gained after leaving, including working in medicine, banking and business management.

Staff would also like to hear from more ex-students who have found their chosen career, whether they live nearby or have moved away.

Alex Shapland-Howes, the managing director of Future First, believes the scheme is useful for students to hear the stories of those who have gained successful careers.

He said: “More than 39 per cent of state school students don’t know anyone in a job they’d like to do.

“If they see that someone who went to the same school, grew up in the same community, has achieved a fulfilling and satisfying job, it helps them see it’s possible for them too.

“It’s really important for all students to be motivated to succeed in the working world and hearing first hand from relatable people in interesting jobs can make a huge difference.”
