HUNDREDS of people gathered to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at a festival organised by a deaf charity.

More than 240 people joined Harrow United Deaf Club’s International Festival at the Civic Centre, on Station Road, on Saturday.

Cultural stalls filled with jewellery and hair accessories were on show, along with colourful pashmina scarves, henna art and face painting.

In the next room, children and young people danced to the sounds of Bollywood dancing by KSPARK Entertainment, in a one hour workshop.

Asif Iqbal, the club’s president, showcased photos of the Queen’s life in a presentation and ended the day with everybody singing and signing “Happy Birthday” to the Queen.

Mr Iqbal was pleased with the success of the International Festival.

He said: “It was such a fantastic day, aiming to bring people together, celebrating and respecting the diversity of our communities and to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“Key themes echoed throughout the day around teamwork, working together in unity, valuing and respecting people from different cultures/ backgrounds, raising awareness and educating all on the challenges that deaf people faces within society and how we can work together to remove barriers.”
