A Royal family fanatic has bought a corgi shaped cake to hand deliver to the Queen as she celebrates her 90th birthday today.

Pensioner Margaret Tyler, of The Fairway, north Wembley, had the Victoria sponge cake specially made at a bakery in Rickmansworth this week and is set to trek out to Winsor at the crack of dawn to personally give the present to Her Majesty.

The 72-year-old retiree, who has four rooms of Royal memorabilia, said she had her fingers crossed she would get through the crowds when the Queen makes her appearance at 11.15am.

She said: "I wanted to give her something. I've given her flowers on two occasions and a cake 10 years ago for her 80th birthday.

"Fingers crossed I get to her - no pressure. I'm sure it will be great fun, it usually is. It's really exciting."

Ms Tyler has collected Royal family mementoes since 1977 and has now amassed more than 10,000 items spanning from the reign of Queen Victoria to its newest additions George and baby Charlotte.

She was among the crowds awaiting the first glimpses of the children, waiting outside St Mary's Hospital for six days to see new born George and 11 days to catch sight of baby Charlotte.

Ms Tyler puts her Royal obsession down to her parents, who were great Royalists themselves.

She hopes her choice of designing the cake around a corgi - the Queen's favoured pet - will bring a smile to Her Majesty's face.
