The loss of three roads from the Harrow Weald conservation area has been reaffirmed by Harrow Council after the decision was challenged by opposition councillors.

Bellfield Avenue,West Drive and West Drive Gardens will loose its protection from developments that could change the character of the estate now Harrow Council cabinet's decision to remove the roads has been upheld.

The opposition Conservative Group forced the council to look again at the boundary change when it 'called-in' the Labour cabinet's decision.

But this week at a special call-in sub-committee meeting the decision was confirmed on a split vote of three to two along party lines and it will now be enacted.

Cllr Stephen Greek, shadow planning and regeneration portfolio holder, said: “By confirming this unnecessary, unfair and unwanted decision, Labour have shown total contempt for the hundreds of Harrow Weald residents who opposed it.

"The call-in shed no light on why this decision was made, beyond the fact that Labour wanted to do it, and confirms that this council clearly has no regard for the protection of Harrow's conservation areas or other precious heritage assets.

"Residents in Harrow’s other conservation areas will now be left wondering if they’ll be next to have their protections removed.”
