Two North London mosques are taking part in the Muslim Council of Britain’s #VisitMyMosque Day.

The national event, held on Sunday, February 7, is in its second year.

The KSIMC of London, on Wood Lane, Stanmore, and Shia Ithna’ashari Community of Middlesex, Gloucester Road, North Harrow, are both opening their doors to give people of all faiths the chance to learn more about Islam.

Dr. Kumail Versi, one of the members of the executive committee of SICM said: "The purpose of the event was to reach out and build bridges, encourage deeper religious understanding and above all, to provide the opportunity for more people to get to know one another."

Visitors will have the chance to tour the centres giving a real insight into life at a mosque. There will also be an opportunity to observe prayers as well as hear talks from MP for Harrow West Gareth Thomas, chairman for Harrow Interfaith Council Jack Lynes and other interfaith leaders.

Sheikh Mustafa Jaffer, president of The KSIMC of London, said: “We are very much looking forward to giving the local community a real insight and chance to tour the centre and learn a bit more about what we do. This is integral to building interest and understanding and we look forward to meeting people and answering any questions that they may have.

"In the spirit of dialogue and friendship, the open day will be a chance for people to come along for food and refreshments and ask questions to help dispel any myths or preconceptions that they may hold.

"In addition, there will be a talk by Dr Chris Hewer, an advisor and academic on interfaith relations, and American scholar, Amina Inloes, which will ask, can religious societies survive today?’’

The KSIMC of London Open Day will be running from 10am until 1pm at Wood Lane, Stanmore. The talk will held from 10.30am to 12.30pm, prayers will be at 1pm, and tours around the centre will run regularly throughout the day.

The SICM Open Day will be running from 5pm until 8pm at 39 Gloucester Road, North Harrow.

Visitors are asked to dress appropriately.
