Planning permission has been granted for more than 200 new homes in Harrow.

Origin Housing has had a scheme of 116 homes at Townsend and Eaton House in South Harrow and 121 apartments with commercial space on the site of the former Cumberland Hotel in central Harrow approved.

The new schemes form part of the housing association’s programme to deliver over 500 new homes for Harrow over the next five years, a minimum 40 per cent of which will be affordable.

Gareth Jones, development director of Origin Housing, said: “These schemes and our growing development pipeline position makes Origin a significant developer within the London Borough of Harrow – and certainly one of the larger providers of affordable housing.

"We have taken a collaborative approach, working with the council and local communities throughout, to help the borough deliverer on its ambitious housing and growth targets.”

Cllr Keith Ferry, responsible for Business, Planning and Regeneration at Harrow Council, added: “We greatly value our partnership with Origin Housing.

"Their confidence in the borough is reflected in a rapidly growing portfolio of new housing schemes, particularly within the Heart of Harrow Housing Zone. "Origin have a passion for the delivery of genuinely affordable, social rented housing which matches our own commitment perfectly.

"They also share our broader placemaking and regeneration goals and we look forward to continuing to work alongside them on our £1.75bn regeneration programme.”

Harrow Times:

A resolution to grant planning was granted on the December 16 for Townsend and Eaton Houses, Northolt Road, where Origin will be transforming a formerly underutilised site in South Harrow into 116 apartments - 69 private sale, 29 shared ownership and 18 affordable rent.

The stepped building will feature straight clean lines and inset glass balconies.

A high proportion of the homes will be dual-aspect and the upper floors will include duplex penthouses.

The Cumberland Hotel site will comprise two buildings of six and nine storeys.

Cumberland will offer a large number of dual aspect homes with generous public and private amenity space.

The site will include a public route from Sheepcote Road to the proposed new public space.

The scheme has scope for subsequent phases, including the restoration of a community hall and the development of a further 50 apartments.

Construction on both Eaton House and the first phase of Cumberland Hotel is scheduled to start in mid 2016.

Both projects have an estimated build programme of two years.

Elsewhere in the borough, other pipeline developments include four interconnecting sites on Palmerston Road, near Harrow and Wealdstone station, where Origin is looking to create in the region of 200 homes alongside community and commercial facilities.
