The captain of the Porters Park Golf Club in Radlett has raised money for a charity helping people with spinal injuries.

Scott Maclachlan, 63, from Loom Lane in Radlett, chose Aspire as the charity to fundraise for this year and almost reached £17,000.

Aspire from Stanmore are a charity that do a lot of work to help people with spinal injuries.

Mr Maclachlan said: “It has been great and it was good fun.

“The bulk of the money came from the two events we held and we had fundraisers, auctions and raffles as well.

“The money will be used to buy five lightweight wheelchairs.”

Mr Machlachlan has been associated with Aspire since 2012 and after volunteering at the Olympic and Paralympic games, he set up the annual Rotary North London Disability games at Aspire.

Fundraising started in June when Mr Maclachlan completed 100 Hole Challenge in 15 hours with the managing secretary Peter Marshall.

This event involved more than 30 miles walking as well as playing the holes with volunteers to drive the buggy with the clubs.

The cheque was received by Aspire fundraising manager Hannah Wyatt who said it was most welcome and would be a substantial addition to their funds.

She said: “It’s absolutely fantastic. Porters Park have been so supportive over the years.

“We are so thankful and grateful that Scott chose Aspire.”
