THE Muslim community in Harrow are “praying for peace” after the horrific attacks in Paris and Lebanon.

Harrow Central Mosque, in Station Road, said it was saddened by the tragic events that unfolded across the world.

In Lebanon, at least 41 people were killed in two suicide bombings in the capital of Beirut on Thursday.

On Friday night, gunmen and suicide bombers hit a concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars almost simultaneously, killing at least 129 people.

The attacks, which Islamic State (IS) have claimed responsibility for, have been described as an “act of war” by French President Francois Hollande.

In a statement, Harrow Central Mosque vowed to stand united with the victims.

It said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, the families and all who have suffered as a result of the recent horrific and tragic events in Paris and Lebanon.

“We absolutely condemn these terrorist attacks on innocent people. While the reports are that 'IS' has claimed responsibility, such acts have no place in the religion of Islam and in no way represent its followers.

“We stand shoulder to shoulder with, and as part of the communities who are victim to these abhorrent acts.

“We pray for peace throughout the world and mutual respect for all during these troubled times.

“We also pray that those who are responsible are brought to justice and held to account.”
