ROGUE traders were targeted as police and trading standards officers combined for a day of action.

Addresses across the borough that were undergoing work were targeted yesterday as part of Operation Liberal, a partnership day of action between the Marlborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, trading standards, revenue and customs and immigration officers.

At one address in Streatfield Road, Harrow, two builders constructing a wall were found to be in the UK illegally and were arrested by police.

Two other builders at the address were served immigration paperwork while another was asked to leave the site.

Elsewhere in the borough, officers arrested a man for being drunk and disorderly in the street.

Borough Commander Simon Ovens said: “Operation Liberal is a partnership response to rouge traders operating in London.

“Today’s arrests in Harrow has shown partnership work at its best.

“Working with our colleagues in trading standards, HMRC and immigration has stamped out rogue traders trying to take advantage of vulnerable victims in our borough.

“Days like today help us to remain the safest borough in London.”
