Double celebrations took place at an Edgware special needs school as it said goodbye to its Year Six pupils and its headteacher.

Woodlands School, in Bransgrove Road, held the annual graduation ceremony on Friday, July 17 for its pupils moving to secondary school in September.

Children were presented with medals by former Harrow mayor Councillor Ajay Maru and headteacher John Feltham.

The ceremony also marked Mr Feltham’s last day at the school, who is retiring after 13 years at the helm.

Mr Feltham said: “It’s held annually to recognise the achievements of the school. It’s a celebration for pupils to take pride in their achievements.

“The children at Woodlands face many barriers to their learning and in their everyday lives. Together with the staff they work relentlessly to achieve their goals, and to reach towards the school vision, which is about being a confident and courageous learner.

“The ceremony is a celebration for the families and children alike.”

Asked for his abiding memory of the school, he said: “I guess the way the school has grown and developed. It’s more than doubled in size. We have managed to achieve outstanding status twice, so I guess all the work and the journey we have taken.”

Building work is currently underway at the school to allow it to expand from holding 97 pupils to 120 in September.
