An aspiring singer was starstruck after meeting her Brit Award winning idol.

Musician Tinie Tempah surprised 50 National Citizen Service graduates at an NCS Youth Board Meeting in London - including Harrow A-level student Mary Senganda - when he reveale he will be working with the youth organisation this year.

The 17-year-old aspiring singer-songwriter, who has been performing since she was 15 and one day hopes to be an established musician, said couldn’t believe it when one of her icons entered the room to announce his new role.

She said: “I’m a big fan of Tinie so to meet him in the flesh was fantastic.

“Tinie told us about his musical journey and setbacks, which as a musician myself was a really unique insight.

“His advice has given me greater confidence and resolve to further my musical ambitions.

“It’s really comforting to know that a Brit Award winner like Tinie still has the same concerns that I have – wondering whether your songs can sell records and how to impress the music industry.”

At the launch, Tinie Tempah talked about the skills he uses every day in his roles as a musician, entrepreneur and fashion designer, relating them back to the skills teens develop through NCS.

He said: “When I was growing up I was lucky enough to realise my musical talents and given the opportunity to pursue them. Unfortunately today’s teens don’t always have the same opportunities.

“Chatting with graduates of the NCS programme, I can appreciate how valuable the experience is in giving teens the confidence and self-belief to uncover their hidden talents.”
