A family have paid tribute to an actor, scout and hard-working newspaper worker who has died aged 87.

Born in Wealdstone on September 10, 1927, Bernard Archer lived a long and active life with a keen interest in the community.

He had a lifelong commitment to Scouting, working for many years for what is now the 6th Harrow Scout Group, along with being associated with the Wealdstone Active Community and an active member of the Harrow Senior Residents Assembly.

He was a founding member of the Holy Trinity Fellowship at Holy Trinity Church in Wealdstone, where he met his wife Janice Brown, and was a ‘leading light’ in church drama and in the Fellowship pantomimes.

Bernard started his working life as an apprentice engineer with London Transport at Acton but soon after the war became a paper planner with the Harrow Observer.

In total, he worked for 53 years with the newspaper industry at King & Hutchings, Middlesex County Press and Trinity Mirror.

When he finally retired at the age of 73, he enjoyed assisting with administrative duties at the former Herga Music School.

He died on February 2, aged 87, and his funeral took place at Wealdstone Methodist Church and Breakspear Crematorium on February 16.
