Supermarket staff are preparing their trainers and their wallets ahead of a sponsored walk.

The eldest of four children, Helena Bark was first diagnosed with cancer in September 2013.

She managed to beat it in June last year and had a bone marrow transplant in July to help prevent the cancer from recurring.

Now 16-years-old, Helena and her family have recently found out that the cancer has returned and doctors have given the teenager only a few months to live.

Staff from a supermarket near her South Harrow home have now organised a sponsored walk this weekend to try to raise money to help give her family some precious experiences with Helena.

Heather Doxford, who has helped to organised the walk, said: “I personally have known this lovely family for years - from the time Helena was a baby, watching her play at the local toddler group with her brothers, to starting infant, junior and high school.

“She is a very beautiful brave young lady who is trying to fight her cancer, and her mum Rosie and dad Trefor are wonderful loving and very supportive parents who keep going even when things get tough and never give up hope.

“The family shop in our store nearly every day as they live locally so we know the family well, and have seen the children go up and wanted to do something to help.”

Almost £3,000 has been raised by the group of 12 in under two weeks, which is hoped to go towards the cost of making the family home ready for Helena’s return from hospital along with paying for family outings.

Walkers will trek 5k around Roxeth Park, a total of six laps, on Sunday, March 1 at 3pm and are still hoping to receive more donations to help them reach their £5,000 target.
