Students who have demonstrated selfless behaviour or completed a huge achievement were honoured at an awards ceremony.

A total of 108 students from 14 secondary schools in Harrow were presented with Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at an annual ceremony at Harrow Arts Centre this week.

The event honoured achievement award winners aged 11 to 25, who were presented with medallions to go with a framed certificate and a cheque for £200 after being nominated by friend and leaders.

Winners included Klaudia Papp-Molnar, 14, from Bentley Wood High School, Stanmore, who called an ambulance for a stranger in the street and waited with him until paramedics arrived.

Shelley Sweeney, 14, from Harrow High School Academy, also won an award after representing Great Britain at boxing, while Erwin Suthagar, 14, from Nower Hill High School, Pinner, received the award for running the school’s Fronter page.

Other award winners included Fathuma Ali, 15, from Park High School, Stanmore, and Lewis Nagle, 15, from Whitmore High School, Harrow.

Harrow borough councillor Simon Brown said: “I would like to offer my congratulation to all the award winners, their families, schools and teachers. The contribution that these young people make to their communities is really outstanding and the whole borough is proud of their young citizens.”

Cllr Ajay Maru, Mayor of Harrow, added: “What a great evening! Full of inspiring young people who are the future. These young people are mindful and well meaning, with the ability to bring all together in a diverse borough and country.”

The selfless students have used the £200 cheque to put back into the community, with some pupils treating classmates or providing extra sports equipment for their school.

Erwin, who used his money as part funding for a form trip for a bowling treat, said “I wanted to say thank you to my form group who are very supportive and have helped me achieve many things in the last three years.

“I want to give them something good in return for helping me.”
