Fellow community workers have paid tribute to murder victim Alison Morrison.

Mrs Morrison died in hospital after being stabbed in the street yesterday morning.

The 45-year-old was vice chairman of the Harrow Safer Neighbourhood Board, which was set up last year to scrutinise the work of police in the borough.

It was set up by Harrow Borough Council in partnership with Harrow police and Mrs Morrison was one of the members of the public who sat on the board.

Speaking to the Harrow Times, Cllr Susan Hall, who is the council's representative on the board, said: “This is an absolute tragedy and a huge loss for the whole community of Harrow.

“When I interviewed her for the Safer Neighbourhood Board she was articulate and smart and I just knew she was brilliant.

“She was a shining star and truly cared about the community and really was a diamond.

“Her loss is absolutely tragic and it is truly horrible.”

Jeremy Zeid, a fellow member of the safer neighbourhood board, said: “This is a terrible tragedy.

“She was a superb and hard working vice chairman who brought measured thought and common sense to the table.

“She will be greatly missed by all. My deepest condolences to her family at what should be a joyous time of year.

“The only comfort that I can offer is that Alison gave much to the community and that she will be remembered fondly.”

Police were called to Alexandra Avenue Rayners Lane yesterday at 7.47am after a woman collapsed in the street from stab wounds.

She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in central London where she died later in the morning.

Detectives investigating the murder say a 48-year-old man was arrested in Lincolnshire on suspicion of murder and taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.
