Pupils learnt about the benefits of going green in a poster design competition.

Children took part in the competition, which coincided with the completion of renovations at schools in Harrow.

The winner poster was designed by Elmgrove Primary School pupil Shumaisa Noory.

Work at the school has included the replacement of lights, heating and insulation, which Harrow Borough Council hopes will lower energy wastage.

The council also says the improvements will pay for themselves within seven years.

Council officers, The Mayor of Harrow, Ajay Maru and cabinet member for environment Varsha Parmar all visited West Lodge Primary School, Pinner.

The school has had work completed in the past few months and officers spoke to pupils about the importance of looking after the environment.

Speaking after the visit the mayor said: “Everywhere we went, the pupils were passionate and knowledgeable about the environment, saving energy and going green.

“It fills me with hope for the future, and I am glad the council could do its part in the present by making our schools that bit cleaner and greener.”
