Harrow Borough Council has welcomed the closure of a brothel following a raid by police this morning.

Three Romanian women were found in the flat in Claremont Road, Wealdstone, which was raided by officers from Harrow police and immigration.

The raid was part of a joint day of action between police, immigration and Harrow Borough Council.

Cabinet member for crime and community safety Cllr Varsha Parmar said: “It is deeply upsetting that women continue to be exploited in this way on our doorsteps.

“The seedy sex trade is often run by criminal gangs and prey on vulnerable women.

“They are usually promised regular work of a different kind, but the reality is very different. Specialist officers are providing the women discovered support in a safe environment.

“I am glad that the police have closed down this establishment in Harrow.”

No arrests were made at the property but all three women were warned by immigration officers that if they were found in the UK again out of work they may be removed from the country.
