More than 3,000 fixed penalty notices were issued in Harrow last year for driving offences, figures reveal.

Road safety charity Brake has published the statistics as part of Road Safety Week.

Across Harrow, 3,652 fixed penalty notices were issued for speeding and 115 for careless driving, which became a fixed penalty notice in August 2013.

Harrow’s worst postcode was HA8, which covers Edgware, Cannons Park and parts of Queensbury, with a total of 720 offences.

A close second was HA3, in Kenton and Wealdstone, where 642 people were caught speeding.

In the HA1 area of Northwick Park and North Harrow, 272 people were issued fixed penalty notices for speeding – the lowest in the borough.

Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive, Brake, said: “When drivers use roads without care for others the consequences can be tragic and horrific – people killed and badly injured, lives ruined forever, because of a moment of impatience or selfishness."

the capital, a total of 73,804 of fixed penalty notices were issued, 2,275 for careless driving and 71,529 for speeding.

The worst postcode in the country for speeding was SL6, in Maidenhead, where 1,831 offences. Stoke-on-Trent’s ST3 postcode was the worst for penalties of careless driving with 45.

Brake has released figures showing how many fixed penalty notices were issued by postcode area last year. The figures relate to the home address of the offender, not the location where the offence occurred.
