People are being urged to recycle more of their plastic bottles to help reduce the size of a waste train.

The West London Waste Train takes 47 containers worth of rubbish a day to landfill from six West London boroughs including Harrow.

Each week the train takes one million plastic bottles that could otherwise be recycled.

The Rubbish Diet project Harrow is working with groups in west London to reduce the length of the train and encouraging people to recycle their bottles.

Sarah Kersey, the West London co-ordinator for The Rubbish Diet said: "People tell me all the time that recycling plastic can be confusing.

"Over the years there’s been so many different messages, and there’s all kinds of different plastics, it’s no wonder people are confused.

“But there are now amazing sorting plants where they can separate all different kinds of plastic, so it’s really easy to recycle now.”

The Rubbish Diet project aims to help households cut the amount of rubbish they send to landfill and increase the amount they recycle.

Supporters of the group’s recenelty visited to Closed Loop Recycling plant in Dagenham, which turns waste bottles food grade plastic for supermarkets.
