The winners of a school poetry competition held in the run-up to Remembrance Day have been announced.

The competition was launched by Mayor of Harrow Cllr Ajay Maru, challenging school children of the borough to write a poem about the First World War and Remembrance Day.

The winner of the infant category was Sara Gracia-Kelleher from St John Fisher School with her poem In the Playground.

Patrick Colson from St Anselm's Roman Catholic Primary School was chosen as winner of the junior category for his work, called Remembrance Poem.

Finally the winner of the secondary category was Tommy Irons from Hatch End School, with his poem ‘We who remain thanks to those who don’t’.

Cllr Maru said: “Firstly I would like to say well done to everyone who took part and congratulate the winners.

“It was a difficult task choosing the winners as all the poems were of a high standard.

“Through the art of poetry, they have shown how important it is to remember the fallen, and the horrors of war.

“I look forward to hearing the winning poets reading their poems on Remembrance Sunday.”
