Dodgy DVDs and fly-tipped waste were just some of the areas of focus for council officers in a day of action today.

Staff from Harrow Borough Council took part in a secure streets day in with Harrow police and trading standards in South Harrow, targeting anti-social behaviour and other issues.

Earlier in the morning the council blitz team cleared rubbish from Northolt Road while officers inspected service roads behind shops for fly-tipped waste.

Planning officers also made a sweep of roads off the high street for 'beds in sheds' or unauthorised shared houses.

The council's cabinet member for crime and community safety Councillor Varsha Parmar said: “Anti-social behaviour – from being a noisy neighbour at one end of the scale to drug dealing at the other extreme – is a blight on our neighbourhoods and ruins the quality of life for many.

“Joint action with the police shows we will be robust in stopping people who make life a misery for communities through their selfish and criminal acts.

“The only way Harrow has achieved the lowest crime rate in London is by sending a consistent signal that we will not put up with anti-social behaviour.

“Together with police and trading standards colleagues, we are taking action on dangerous people, dumped rubbish and dodgy goods. All of this shows the people of Harrow that we are on their side.”

There have been ten joint days of action between the council and police which have targeted specific areas highlighted as hotspots for certain issues.
