Police have launched a new campaign to reduce the number of violent attacks during the winter months.

Harrow police are taking part in Operation Equinox along with boroughs across the capital.

Officers along with staff from Harrow Borough Council and other organisations will be focusing on pubs, bars and other venues where violent offending regularly occurs.

Attention will also be on fast food outlets and trouble spots around the borough.

In the past year there were 1,223 incidents of violence with injury in Harrow, a 6.2 percent increase compared to the year before.

Operations in Harrow will include targeted patrols in the town centre and enforcement activities at venues.

Leading the operation, Commander Lucy D'Orsi, said: "This operation encompasses a host of co-ordinated enforcement.

“Operation Equinox will continue to support victims of violent crime and will take a firm approach with those intent on committing violence.

"London is one of the safest cities in the world and the Met is determined to use all of its resources to stem the rise in violent crime and bring before the courts those who commit violence in communities.”

Harrow Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens said: "Harrow borough remains resolute in retaining its position as one of the very safest boroughs in London.

“We use and will continue to focus our resources on those who commit acts of violence. My message is clear, if you commit an act of violence you will be brought to justice."
