The Mayor of Harrow will lay wreaths at war memorials around the borough to mark the start of the annual Poppy Appeal.

Cllr Ajay Maru will visit all the borough’s 11 war memorials on Tuesday next week to highlight the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, to honour veterans and those who gave their lives for the country.

People are invited to pay their respects at the wreath laying at their local memorial.

The tour will start at Wealdstone Memorial clock tower, in Spencer Road at 12.30pm and end at St John’s Greenhill, in Sheepcote Road, Harrow at 3pm.

The Mayor said: “This year marks the centenary of the start of the First World War and it is a reminder to us all that was must never forget the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served and are serving to protect our freedoms.

“The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal continues to support the welfare of veterans and serving and ex-serving personnel in the armed forces.

“I encourage all residents to support this great cause by donating and wearing their poppy with pride.”
