People still have time view proposals for a town centre eyesore at a public exhibition this week.

Yesterday the Harrow Times reported on the early proposals for the former Royal Mail sorting office site in College Road, Harrow, from the Hyde Group.

Around 350 homes, a new central library and public space in the heart of the town centre with proposals including a 19 storey building.

In 2011 plans for a skyscraper were rejected by Harrow Borough Council but the proposal to build a 19-storey structure was accepted by the Secretary of State, subject to "world-class architectural design" being achieved.

Phiroze Mackenzie, development manager for the Hyde Group said: “We are keen to consult with the local community at the earliest opportunity and ensure their feedback can be considered as the design for the site evolves.

“Therefore, the proposals on display at our exhibition are initial concepts and the height of the buildings has not been finalised.

“We are aware of past concerns regarding height and have worked very hard to mitigate the impact through the design.

“However, for the avoidance of all possible doubt, the proposals are following adopted planning policies, which allow buildings up to 19 storeys on the site.

“We are delighted on the positive feedback on the appearance and design. But we wish to correct statements that the design does not reach these heights. It does.”

So far more than 50 people have viewed the plans at Harrow Baptist Church, in College Road.

Those interested in seeing the display can do so on Saturday October 18, from 10am to 2pm at the church.
