A community project is being launched to help resurrect a library's 'secret garden'

Groups and neighbours are being urged to help restore Kenton library's disused garden.

Over recent years the garden has become largely isolated from its building as a result of poor care and neglect.

Harrow Borough Council's public health team wants to clear it overgrown shrubs and transform the garden into a flourishing oasis that will be open to the public.

Cllr Sue Anderson who is responsible for community, culture and resident engagement said: “This is a great opportunity for local people to decide how to make this underused space more attractive.

"It’s a chance for residents to share and develop their gardening skills, create something for everyone to enjoy and take part in healthy and sociable activity.”

The garden covers approximately 800sq m and has the potential to nurture a variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Organisers are currentlu looking at design concepts.

As part of Harrow public health’s growing communities initiative, the council is urging local community volunteers across Harrow to help them to identify and restore other overlooked public spaces.

Anyone interested in working on the 'secret garden' can go to Kenton Library, in Kenton Lane on Thursday from 2pm to 4pm.
