Proposals to create a new all-though community school will go before Harrow’s planning committee this week.

The plans for the Whitefriars Community School in Wealdstone, were submitted in July this year after a lengthily consultation process with the nearby community.

Members of Harrow Borough Council’s planning committee will discuss the plans on Wednesday, September 3.

The proposals include the permanent expansion of the age range of the school in Whitefriars Avenue to include secondary school pupils.

In the planning documents the schools says the plans “represent a significant investment in the education provision in Harrow”.

And the expansion is an “excellent opportunity to enhance the site as a social and educational hub for the community”.

The newly expanded school will include the redevelopment of the Harrow Teachers Centre, which is currently located next to the school and the construction of a two and three storey building.

Officers at Harrow Borough Council have recommended the plans be granted planning permission.

If given the go-ahead by councillors on Wednesday, the intake of the school’s first year seven classes would start at the new school in September 2015.

Eventually it will offer three forms of entry with 90 places in each primary year group and five forms of entry to secondary-aged children, with 150 places per year group.

The school is one of more than a dozen from across the borough which are part of the council’s school expansion programme aimed at creating more school places for the increasing demand.

At Wednesday’s planning meeting proposals for the expansion of Earlsmead Primary School in Harrow and West Lodge Primary school, in Pinner, are also on the agenda.

These are some of the final schools to be grow in size under the council’s second phase expansions.

The Harrow Times previously reported this summer Harrow council has also been in negotiations with other schools in the borough for a possible third phase of expansion.
