A stolen display cake and a swarm of bees failed to deter hundreds of people from enjoying an annual horticultural show.

Families visited the attractions for the two day Harrow in Leaf Horticultural show on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday at Harrow Museum and Heritage Centre, in Pinner View.

Rain on the second day failed to hold back the crowds from attending the event which is in its tenth year.

On the Sunday an exhibit cake was stolen from a display and a swarm of bees descended on the beekeeping marquee in the poor weather after being attracted by the honey inside.

Chairman of Harrow in Leaf, Sue Green said: “I really couldn’t believe someone would pinch a cake from a Horticultural Show. It was a bit disappointing, but otherwise the whole show went really well.

“It was a show of two halves really. The Sunday had fantastic weather and we had loads of people down.

“But the weather was really the deciding factor on Monday and it was a bit of a washout. But we still had people come down and they all enjoyed themselves.

“Despite the weather we are really pleased with the two days and we are already looking forward to next year and hoping it will be bigger and better.”

Gardeners from Harrow and beyond displayed their produce which included fruits, vegetables flowers, crafts, paintings, ciders and wines, all home made.

A popular highlight of this year’s show was the beekeepers' marquee where people were able to learn more about the pastime.

Also at the event was the Radio Society of Harrow which demonstrated the art of radio communications with the group’s short wave transmitter.
