A supermarket has installed a life-saving defibrillator in one of its stores as part of national roll out.
Asda’s South Harrow branch will have the equipment in store as part of a partnership with heart health charity the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Any member of the public will be able to use the defibrillator to deliver an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest.
Amit Aggarwal, who works in corporate fundraising at the BHF, said: “Cardiac arrest survival rates in the UK are astonishingly low.
“But Asda’s bold commitment to become the first large retailer to have trained colleagues and public access defibrillators will be instrumental in helping communities up and down the country access the life-saving support in an emergency.
“This really could mean the difference between life and death for someone having a cardiac arrest while doing something as ordinary as shopping.”
