The Mayor of Harrow was one of the guests of honour at an annual festival in the borough’s French twin town.

Cllr Ajay Maru with fellow members from Harrow Borough Council attended the annual Giants festival in the French town of Douai.

The town in the north of the country has been partnered with Harrow for more than 30 years.

At the festival last week Cllr Maru spoke at the Civic Lunch with more than 100 of the towns councillors and presented Mayor of Douai, Cllr Frederic Chereau with Harrow School Hat.

Cllr Maru said: “It was fantastic meeting mayors and councillors from other countries.

“It was a chance to tell everyone about our achievements and history as well as how diverse our Borough is and how everyone of all backgrounds get along with each other.

“I enjoyed meeting the new Mayor of Douai, whom I have invited to come to Harrow to join in the celebration of our diamond jubilee. I hope that we have a long and continuing twinning between Harrow and Douai.”
