The Mayor of Harrow led a flag-raising ceremony to honour the sacrifice made by those in the services.

Cllr Ajay Maru helped raise the flag this morning outside Harrow Borough Council’s Civic Centre in Station road to mark Armed Forces Day.

He was joined by deputy mayor Cllr Krishna Suresh and police borough commander Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens.

The national event will take place on Saturday and aims to raise awareness of the contribution and sacrifice of those who serve and have served in the in the armed forces.

The mayor said: “This is a tremendous opportunity to show our appreciation for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces, and the sacrifices they make for the freedom of others.

“In Harrow, we are committed to working very closely with the armed forces and our co-operation was reaffirmed last year with the signing of our armed forces covenant.

“I am honoured to be raising the flag and we will continue to give our servicemen and women the support they deserve.”
