A charity shop welcomed the Mayor of Harrow to a pop-up cafe to help raise awareness of Fairtrade.
Mayor Councillor Nana Asante visited Oxfam's Pinner shop for the Fairtrade coffee day on Friday as part of her campaign during her year in office to make Harrow a Fairtrade borough.
Harrow is currently waiting for its application to be verified by the movement, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of paying farmers in developing countries a fair price for their goods.
Giuseppe Marasco, from the shop said: “The Mayor’s support for Oxfam and Fairtrade has been fantastic.
“She has been the backbone of the campaign of raising awareness and of making Harrow a Fairtrade borough.”
Cllr Asante said: “I’m very proud to have been part of the work of Oxfam in raising awareness of Fairtrade during my year in office.
“I think events like this are a great way for people to learn more about the campaign. We are well on our way to becoming a Fairtrade borough and we have our fingers crossed it will be confirmed soon.
“It is something very close to my heart and it important people and producers in other parts of the world are paid a fair price for their goods.”
The charity shop in Bridge Street is currently in need of volunteers to work in its bookshop and for help with social media campaigns.
Those interested in helping out at the shop for a couple of hours a week can call 020 8429 0926.
