Harrow had the lowest  recorded crime rate for the whole of London last month, making it the safest borough in the capital.

Figures from the Metropolitan Police for April this year show 949 crimes were committed in Harrow, giving the borough a crime rate of 3.97, the best in London.

The results are the borough's second best since the Met began providing monthly figures three years ago.

The latest results were welcomed by Harrow Borough Council leader Councillor Susan Hall.

She said: "This is truly excellent news. We have been working very closely with our fantastic police - particularly through joint initiatives like weeks of action - to make Harrow the safest borough in London.

“To record the lowest crime rate in London for the first time in our history shows how much progress has been made in achieving that goal.”

In April this year the Harrow Times reported overall crime had dropped by 15 per cent compared to the year before.

In June last year, borough commander Chief Supt Simon Ovens announced his pledge to make Harrow the safest borough in London three years.

Focusing on seven neighbourhood crimes set out by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).
