School proposals for Whitchurch Playing fields to be discussed tonight

A deal to allow a new school to be built on land currently used for playing fields will be discussed this evening.

Harrow Borough Council’s cabinet are due to agree plans for Avanti House School to use Whitchurch Playing Fields as its permanent home.

The meeting comes after the Education Funding Agency gave approval for the Avanti School trust to build on the site in Wemborough Road, Stanmore, earlier this week.

The cabinet will discuss arrangements for the lease of the site to the school trust, consent for the creation of a free school on the fields and proposals for continued community use of the fields.

Duke of Chandos says...

So the Tory administration punish those in the locality who "found them out" when trying to do a deal with the Whitchurch Consortium. How? By putting a 1200 pupil school in an area already gridlocked by the presence of two other schools. This will not be a wholly local community school and pupils don't walk. Visit the sister school of Krishna Avanti in Camrose Avenue for evidence of this. Also, poor Whitchurch school for their expansion are having to build on their playground and were denied using any of this adjoining land. Surely the LA should have first call on this land for education? Double standards or what. . .
