Controversial plans to turn part of playing fields into a caravan site will be discussed by councillors this week.

The proposals for Broadfields playing fields, in Headstone Lane, will be looked at by members of Harrow Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

The site owners Harrow Community Sports Ltd submitted proposals for a site with 75 pitches and the construction of shower and toilet blocks.

The plans had originally been submitted to the council last year but were withdrawn days before they were to be discussed by the committee in May.

Planning officers had recommended the committee reject the plans but they were withdrawn before councillors could make a decision.

The owners handed in proposals for a second time in January this year, with number of reports supporting the application with evidence that the size and type of vehicles involved with caravanning can safely enter the site.

Planning officers have recommended refusal of the plans for the latest set of plans.

More than 4,200 people have signed a petition against the proposals which was handed in to the council in February with campaigners calling for the land to be used for sport.

The meeting of the planning committee will take place on Wednesday April 9, from 6.30pm at Harrow Borough Council Civic Centre, in Station Road.
