The appeal process over Barnet FC’s stadium the Hive has officially been opened.

The Planning Inspectorate wrote to Harrow Borough Council informing the authority that the appeal from the club is valid and is now open.

Barnet FC announced it would appeal against Harrow Borough Council's planning committee's decision to reject its proposals for the Hive stadium in November last year.

Both the council and football club will now have to send documents in relation to the appeal to the inspectorate over the next two months, setting out their case for the inquiry which will take place in June.

In September, members rejected the application on the basis that the stadium's floodlights and west stand fell outside specifications agreed by the council.

The council then issued Barnet with a planning enforcement notice, which means the club would have six months to demolish the stand and three months to remove the lights.

The Planning Inspectorate announced the three day inquiry will start on June 10 this year.
