A Harrow sports star raised more than £3,000 in memory of a teenager murdered outside his school.

Professional boxer Mitchell Smith last week held an open gym event at Bushey Amateur Boxing Club in memory of Kiyan Prince, who was stabbed outside his Edgware school in 2006.

More than 150 people bought tickets and further money was raised from the sale of boxing memorabilia and cakes.

The money will be donated to the Kiyan Prince Foundation, which is run by Kiyan’s father Mark Prince.

Mr Smith, 21, said: “I wrapped my hands up like I do in real fights and did some shadow boxing. It was a great night, there was a really nice atmosphere.

“I didn’t know Kiyan but I had a fairly rough upbringing myself. There’s a lot of knife crime like this, and I thought I’d try and do something to help.

“On the night, Kiyan’s father Mark made a really touching speech about Kiyan. It was really heartbreaking to hear him talk about his loss.”

He added: “I really want to thank everyone who came and supported the cause, especially John Smith the coach at Bushey for letting us use the gym and to Jon Guymar and Jordan Carrs for helping organise the night.”
