The winners of a competition to find the best small independent shops in the borough have been announced.

The Chocolate Room in Harrow Town Centre was voted the winner of Harrow’s Small Shop of the Year awards.

Harrow West Parliamentary candidate Hannah David and MP Bob Blackman launched the competition at the end of last year.

People were called to vote for their favourite shops and were also in with a chance to win £100.

Mrs David said: "I’m so glad that this newly established and innovative business is the winner of this prize.

"Its founder, Jaydip Patel, ticks all the boxes in terms of what we want to see out of our local economy.

“I hope his hard work continues to pay off and wish him the best of luck going into the future.”

Congratulations to the chocolate room for winning the Harrow small shop of the year. My question is to MP Bob Blackman and Hannah David according to the award criteria it was for small independent business trying to compete, so how can this award be handed over to global company from Australia with several outlets worldwide and has opened up their first franchise in the UK (Harrow) surely does this not seem a little unfair to the hard working small traders of Harrow who do not have the backing of corporate giants behind them and how can you possible even count a nomination for franchised company toward this type of award, that was clearly been set up to reward a Small business and the owner on their hard work and efforts. As a small business my team and customers who made an effort to vote and support us, as I guess so many other shops also and we all feel let down and disheartened on the final result as we would have no chance of winning when you are competing with the big companies .
