A pupil has been shortlisted for a London-wide awards for her campaign to tackle bullying in school.
Vaibhavi Shah, of Preston School, in Carlton Avenue, north Wembley, has been nominated for a John Lewis Young People of the Year (YOPEY) award.
For the past six years, the 18-year-old has given up her free time to be part of the school’s behaviour panel to tackle disruption in lessons.
Recently she organised an anti-bullying campaign based on the problem of 'sexting' among pupils, including assemblies for all year groups.
Teacher Sian Rhodes who nominated the pupil, said: “When Vaibhavi started she was a shy, quiet girl, but over the years she has blossomed into a confident girl who is trying to prevent bullying and help pupils improve their behaviour.
“She is totally reliable and enthusiastic and is always thinking of new ideas to tackle bullying. She has given up many hours of her free time to ensure that the behaviour panel is successful.
“Her efforts have made a real difference to many students in our school who have had bullying issues.”
Ms Shah also recently presented a workshop on Saturdays to teachers from other schools about the work of the behaviour panel.
The YOPEYs aims to highlight the work of children, teenagers and young adults from the ages of ten to 25 who are role models to others their age.
Winners of the award will get a £1,000 prize, half of which is to be donated to a charity of their choice.
