A campaign has been launched to urge people not to drink and drive during the Christmas period.

Harrow Borough Council’s road safety team has launched the Beer Mat Drink Drive Campaign to try and deter people from getting behind the wheel after a few drinks.

More than 20,000 mats from the council campaign have been put up in and around the borough’s pubs.

The council hope the messages will encourage people to be on the lookout for people they are with and not let them drive of they have had too much to drink.

Cabinet member for community safety Cllr Susan Hall said: “Safety is a top priority for the council, and whilst we want residents to enjoy themselves over the festive period, we also want to remind everyone of the dangers of drink driving.

“Alcohol consumption is high during this time of the year. You may feel ok to drive, but is it worth the gamble?”
