An MP has welcomed an announcement the borough will be getting more than £4million extra support for school pupils.

The extra money has been allocated to Harrow to support pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds as part of the governments Pupil Premium scheme.

The £4.3million got the 2014/15 year will go to schools and close the attainment gap between pupils from different backgrounds.

Bob Blackman MP for Harrow East said: “This is excellent news for disadvantaged pupils and their families in Harrow East.

“This will give local schools the support they need to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, can fulfil their potential.

“It is further confirmation that, despite the economic mess that we inherited from Labour, this Government has found the funds to give support to those who need it most to help them get on in life.”

The pupil premium allocates extra money for each child entitled to free school meals and is worth £900 per pupil.
