Think local for Christmas shopping says Harrow Borough Council

Harrow Borough Council is calling on people to think local when it comes to their Christmas shopping.

In the last full shopping week before the big day, the council is calling on people make use of the town centre and district high streets to complete their festive purchases.

Following the success of the Harrow town centre Christmas party the council hopes improvements to shopping areas will entice more shoppers.

Cabinet member for business Cllr Kamaljit Chana said: "There is no need to travel outside Harrow for your Christmas presents this year – the borough has plenty to offer, with lots of different stores, as well as restaurants and cafes if you want to take a break from all that shopping.”

Councillor Chana would like Harrow residents to shop locally. I would like the Harrow Times to ask him why he has not responded to the two articles on the website dated 09.12.2103 and 11.12.2013. You will see desperate pleas from residents for action to be taken over the St George’s centre suicides.

The following is a quote from Laura who narrowly missed being hit and killed by the person who jumped at St Georges.
“I was one of the witnesses of this incident and it was horrific to see. the man landed just metres away from me. I was only on my way to work around the corner. I’m just glad there were no children around at the time as it would have traumatized them for life; I totally agree that they need to do something about this. apparently it is a hot spot for suicide and that was paramedics that were treating me for shock that told me that so they all know. just a matter of time till something happens about it now hopefully”.
The town centre traders should consider themselves fortunate that Laura has not billed them for counselling sessions because of the gruesome shock.

Another quote from Rabbitz
“Desperate people will always find away to kill themselves sure you can stop them throwing themselves off St Georges but then they will go to Harrow and Wealdstone station and step in front of a train what is needed is more preventative help from the NHS and From the council ahh but this costs money and its cheaper to keep burying people than helping them”

So far Harrow is getting a reputation for being the suicide leader of the 32 London Boroughs. Why would people shop in Harrow when they can go to Watford or Brent cross and not encounter people bent on suicide?

SUE ANDERSON (FANFARE for this lady) was the ONLY councillor to have responded to residents pleas and has said she would l discuss the problem with the NHS, St George’s and the Council. Perhaps the rest of the councillors are unaware of what is going on in the borough of Harrow because the silence is deafening.

I unreservedly second the appeal for shoppers to support their very own Town Centre which is not only wearing a lovely, festive look but has an abundance of goods to offer.

I am equally concerned about the safety issues which have been outlined in some detail and hope that ALL our Councillors will get together to tackle this thorny problem and prevent any further incidents. These are most off-putting and cost far too much, not only in human terms but also for all the services involved.

VIVA HARROW TOWN CENTRE!

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A TREMENDOUS NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

God Bless.

Of course this is tragic!Nobody could deny that.Instead of playing with semantics ,let's urge the people in charge to take some safety measures swiftly before another tragedy occurs.
