Harrow Times: Hospital trust gets award Hospital trust gets award

A hospital trust has been recognised for its work to improve weekend emergency mortality rates.

The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust is one of only seven trusts commended in the 2013 Dr Foster Hospital Guide awards.

Figures showed the trust, which includes Northwick Park Hospital, had a better than expected overall mortality rate of 81.7 compared to the national average of 100.

Chief executive David McVittie said: “We are delighted that we have maintained our excellent record on mortality rates for the seventh year running and that this year we have been recognised for making improvements for patients being treated at weekends at our hospitals too.

“This is good news for our patients. It is so important they receive as high quality care at weekends as they would at any other time.

“Mortality rates are an important indicator of the quality of care patients receive and this is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.”

The hospital-level mortality indicator is calculated by measuring the deaths in hospital and for 30 days after treatment.
