Harrow Borough Council leadership vote scheduled for tonight
A vote on the leadership of Harrow Borough Council is due to take place this evening.
The meeting to remove the authority's Independent Labour leader Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar and elect a new leader of Harrow Borough Council was called for by the Conservative group.
The move comes after nine Labour councillors split from their group earlier this year to form the Independent Labour Group.
The group took control of the council cabinet under the leadership of Cllr Idaikkadar with the support of the Conservatives.
On calling for the leadership meeting earlier this month, Conservative group leader Cllr Susan Hall said her group had supported Independent Labour to “steady the ship”.
With only eight councillors now remaining, she claimed Independent Labour could no longer function as an effective administration and said that Harrow residents deserved better.
During the past two weeks, negotiations between different groups have been going on behind the scenes to strike a deal for tonight’s vote.
