Harrow Magistrates Court plans deferred
A decision on plans to turn a historic magistrates court into a day centre have been deferred.
The proposals for Harrow Magistrates Court, in Rosslyn Crescent, went before Harrow Borough Council’s planning committee last night.
A decision was due to be made on the plans from applicant, The Jasper Foundation, to turn the court into a day centre for elderly members of the Asian community.
However, councillors deferred the decision for a later date to allow committee members to visit the building to better assess the plans.
The court was closed by the Government in 2011 as part of cost-cutting measures across the justice sector, which led to outrage in the community.
The building was sold by the Ministry of Justice in 2012 and legal proceedings have not been carried out at the building since a year earlier.
