"We’re just over the moon" - Best results ever for Harrow High School
A high school recorded its best ever results in its GCSEs today.
Pupils at Harrow High School achieved the best year in the school’s history with 56 per cent of them achieving at least five A*to C grades at GCSE including English and maths.
This marks an increase of 18 per cent from last year’s results for the Gayton Road school.
Headteacher Paul Gamble said: “Our dedicated staff have the highest expectations of all our learners and encourage them to believe they can achieve the very best results.
“I’ve run out of superlatives for our pupils and the results we have had today.
“All the pupils and the staff have worked incredibly hard to achieve what this. Everyone has done fantastically well. We’re just over the moon.”
Pubudu Wanni Arachchige, 16, who got seven A*s, three As, one B and one C grade, and will be going on to sixth form to study chemistry, biology, physics and maths.
She said: “I have to say I was surprised with some of my results, I didn’t think would do this well. I’m just so happy with what I got.
“The teachers were always there for us when things got hard offering support and advice. The friendly environment and people at Harrow High School are amazing.”
Head boy Fynn Roberts, 16, who got his grades to get into sixth form, said: “I am very happy with my results. They were much better than I expected and cannot wait to start sixth form at Harrow High in September.
“I really couldn’t sleep last night, I was just tossing and turning with nerves but once I saw my results I was very happy.”
Chairman of governors John Courquin said: “The governing body are immensely proud and pleased with the tremendous exam results.
“What we have seen over the last few years is a complete transformation at Harrow High School. We could certainly say with confidence that this really is excellence for all.”
