Free 20 minute parking trial for Rayners Lane begins
A trial for a 20-minute free parking scheme has been launched in a busy Harrow shopping street.
Harrow Borough Council introduced the pilot scheme in Rayners Lane yesterday.
The trial was part of recommendations agreed by the council's cabinet in June and results will determine whether the policy will be rolled out across the borough.
It is hoped the policy will encourage more people to visit their local shops and help small independent businesses in the area.
The council's leader, Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar, said: “Supporting our local businesses and district centres is a top priority for Harrow Council.
“We want to encourage residents to shop locally and attract trade for our local businesses from beyond our borough's borders which is why we are trialling the 20-minutes free parking.
“It will allow drivers to carry out those quick everyday tasks such as picking up a few groceries, dropping your suits off at the dry cleaners, or stopping off to post a letter or parcel somewhere.”
