Hatch End businesses are furious over changes to parking regulations

'Parking system designed by biggest idiot in the world' say traders
Traders in Hatch End are furious about changes to parking regulations they claim will kill their trade.
Shopkeepers are angry because they say Harrow Borough council’s plan to introduce double yellow lines and pay and display parking to Hatch End's high street would further restrict the already limited parking.
Last year the council converted bays on The Broadway to disabled parking which shopkeepers said remain empty for most of the day.
Haresh Patel, manager of Hatch End Post Office in The Broadway, said: “There are 11 disabled bays are on one side of the road alone, four of which are outside my shop and no one uses them.
“Instead of making things easier for the shopkeepers they are driving trade away.
“The council are going to spend £70,000 on a parking meter, why don’t they use that money to do something useful for the community.”
On Tuesday the council announced a policy that would give shoppers 20 minutes' free parking during the run-up to Christmas.
In response to this news Mr Patel added: “In Hillingdon they get half an hour of free parking all year round.
“Whoever designed the parking system is the biggest idiot in the world.”
Mike Allenby, co-chairman of the Hatch End Traders Association, said: “We have been told that the slip road is going to stay free but the car park is going to be pay and display and there will be double yellow lines everywhere else.
“The council say it’s being done because we are the only area in the borough with free parking.”
Mr Allenby believes the plans are a moneymaking scheme.
He added: “The 20p and 30p charges won’t make a difference. It’s about the £60 fines.
“In the council consultation, 63 per cent of residents said leave it as it is and only 37 per cent said change it.
“But Councillor Phillip O’Dell, portfolio holder for environment and community safety, said we have to listen to the significant minority.
“They were going to do it from the start - the consultation was just a show.”
Independent councillor Stanley Sheinwald believes the 20 minutes of free parking is a political gimmick.
He said: “Shops are closing every week in Hatch End and the public wants at least half an hour of free parking.
“If they can do this in the run up to Christmas then why can’t they do it all year round?"
Cllr Sheinwald added: “If this isn’t resolved it’s going to kill off the trade.”
The Harrow Times is awaiting a response from the council.

The claim regarding the disabled bays, that "no one uses them" is simply not true. I frequently have to drop my mother off at the restaurant and then park in a nearby road because there are no available disabled bays.

Step forward the non-driving Cllr PHIL O'DELL..
As I have written in this paper, Brtween Barnet Tories and Harrow Labour, is there a competition as to who can kill off their shops first??
No douby Cllr O'Dull will blame it all on the "cuts" despite forking out SEVENTY GRAND of OUR money on the paring machne, and let's not forget the "revenue" raosing implications of all of those PENALTY NOTICES issued by the vultures on mopeds.
Perhaps the traders should get together and SUE the council. After all the yaren't putting these controls in LABOUR WARDS are they??? Just TORY ones.
If I get back onto Council this week, I am going to create mayhem. I and Harrow UKIP will work with whomsoever makes life easier for residents and businesses, and be the worst possible nightmare for those who don't.

Instead of "world", substitute the word "UNIVERSE".

Regarding your chances in the by-election - your election and selection failures since 2010 speak louder!

Now "harrowKing" or whoever you are, SSSHHHHH!!!! I am writing this very quietly, so that only you can read this. Wouldn't want to make you look any more of a pillock.
Firstly, let me tell other readers that all of the below is on public record. Some of us know what the truth is, plus the fact that I sat on TARSAP, the Traffic And Road Safety Panel.
Now let's see..... Oh yes the LABOUR wards of WEALDSTONE AND MARLBOROUGH where when I was on the Council we OPENED the "killed by Labour" Wealdstone High Street. I campaigned for this for nearly 12 years.
As for CPZs, got a decent result in West Harrow, allowing residents to get it REVIEWED and/or changed at 6 monthly intervals.
I REFUSED any notion that shop-killing parking charges or a CPZ should be imposed on LABOUR WARD, Queensbury.
As I have said over and over, I serve RESIDENTS and Local BUSINESS for their benefits, not the Council's.
But hey, 'king nuisance, why let a few facts get in the way of a good rant, eh??
Have you joined the Labour Party yet CllrAkhtar/Davidx/ha
rrowKing, or do even they have some standards and criteria for membership?

And here's another little nugget. You may remember several years ago, pre 2006, just before Christmas trade, LABOUR closed down the multi storey car-park in Stanmore, doing severe damage to local businesses.
May I suggest "harrow-wossname", that you do some homework. Oh yes, and who was it who pilloried Labour in the local papers regarding this madness and their anti-business attitude??? ME, likewise my 12 year campaign, street stalls, articles and letters at my expense highlighting the deliberate killing of Wealdstone, again by Labour.
So whoever you are, put that in your pipe and smoke it (but not in an enclosed public area)

This known as Democracy in the strange world inhabited by Mr Odell. On this basis whoever came second in Mr Odell's ward should now be representing the electorate and Mr Odell should be claiming his dole money every week.
